The programme
The Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and Alternative Provision (AP) Mentoring Programme provides one-to-one support for young people (aged 11-18 years-old) who have been excluded from secondary school or are at risk of exclusion.
Mentors provide holistic personalised support that enables young people to:
- re-engage with education
- build relationships with peers and adults
- improve their mental health and wellbeing.
Some mentoring projects also focus on supporting families or helping young people prepare for their next steps by building skills for employment or the transition into further education.
This essential support has been delivered for two years in PRUs and APs in all 32 London boroughs across the capital.
Evaluation is currently being commissioned.
