Loved and Wanted Fund

Who can apply

To apply, you must:

  • be a registered charity, charitable incorporated organisation, community interest company, other not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, or community benefit society
  • deliver activities within a physical space where Londoners can come together, and be able to operate out of this space until March 2028
  • have operated in the same local area for the past 5 years
  • have an annual turnover between £100,000 and £10 million
  • be legally constituted and able to enter into a contract with the GLA
  • have an organisational bank account with at least two unrelated signatories
  • work with or within different communities impacted by financial hardship, social exclusion or structural inequalities and be willing to work across communities of faith
  • show how you will collaborate with other community, faith and public sector organisations to amplify the Loved and Wanted message and commit to doing so across the programme.

Organisations who receive Loved and Wanted funding would need to work in partnership, especially with small civil society organisations who already do great work at local level, to deliver activities. As such, we strongly encourage joint proposals from formal partnerships that build on the strengths of different organisations.

If applying as a partnership:

  • the lead partner must be a civil society sector organisation (i.e. voluntary, community, arts and culture, or faith) and meet the eligibility requirements
  • you must have a partnership agreement, clearly highlighting roles and responsibilities, alongside financial and other governance arrangements.

Find more information on applying as a partnership.

If selected, you must also:

  • take part in regular thinking and networking sessions with other grantees
  • regularly monitor, measure and report on the impact of activities you deliver
  • work in partnership, especially with small civil society organisations who already do great work at local level, to deliver activities that improve social connection and reduce barriers for Londoners to participate fully in community life
  • engage with the wider Loved and Wanted campaign, creating content to tell the story of your activities through this lens
  • commit to displaying Loved and Wanted visuals and to amplifying the broader campaign and its branding so that the message reaches more Londoners.

How to apply

The application process is split into two stages.

  • Stage 1: Expression of Interest (open to all)
  • Stage 2: Full application (up to 45 shortlisted applicants)

Before applying, please read our funding guidance and assessment framework.

The Expression of Interest form covers your organisation's mission, the communities you work with(in), and how you would use Loved and Wanted funding to reach more Londoners and promote cohesion. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to Stage 2 to provide greater detail on the proposed Loved and Wanted offer, plans to manage it, impact measurement, and the long-term vision for the space.

In choosing who to fund, we will look for evidence that you can work collaboratively to build social cohesion and amplify the Loved and Wanted goals of unity, respect and togetherness.

What we're looking for What this means

Strongly rooted in a local community in London

You've operated from a physical space in London for at least 5 years.

Your organisation is part of the local social fabric, so you understand who is in your neighbourhood (however you define the geography) and the resources, values and relations you could collectively strengthen.

You understand the needs of the community group(s) that your current work addresses.

Your staff and/or board reflect the diversity of the local area.

Track record of delivering impact on social cohesion

You're working across a range of issues to address inequalities faced by Londoners of different community and faith backgrounds.

You can articulate the complexities of this work and demonstrate its impact, particularly as it relates to social cohesion.

You likely already deliver activities that build cross-community relationships and trust, increase civic participation and/or promote greater equality for marginalised groups.

You want to expand this work.

Broad reach and effective engagement

You're supporting multiple communities who face barriers to feeling loved and wanted in your neighbourhood. This may include:

  • D/deaf and disabled Londoners
  • Black or ethnic minority Londoners
  • Londoners with a faith identity
  • Londoners from a migrant background
  • younger or older Londoners
  • LGBTQIA+ Londoners
  • low-income Londoners

or other groups.

Importantly, you approach this work in a sensitive and intersectional way. You understand that identity is multifaceted and impacted by societal structures.

You’re committed to expanding your reach and working collaboratively, as building cohesion is a job for all Londoners.

Committed to working collaboratively

You have a strong understanding of the complexities of your local area and the roles different stakeholders play in community building.

As an organisation, you build effective partnerships and navigate challenges productively.

You want to continue working collaboratively to reach new people, address complex needs, or better connect Londoners to the services they need to participate fully in community life.

Aligned with the Loved and Wanted campaign goals

You believe in the importance of ensuring that every Londoner feels loved and wanted.

Your grant proposal includes measurable and achievable elements that both:

  1. better connect Londoners from different communities and backgrounds
  2. increase access to the services / support Londoners need to participate fully in community life.

You are interested in the networking aspects of the Loved and Wanted Fund, and you see the fund as a stepping stone to organisational change, not just one-off project funding.

Find more information in the assessment framework.

In your application, you must include initial key performance indicators (KPIs) – the ways you'll measure the success of your activities.

Whilst final KPIs will be agreed with individual grantees, we expect all Loved and Wanted spaces to evidence impact against the following outcomes:

Outcome KPIs

Stronger connections between communities, including through an increase in the number of opportunities for Londoners from different backgrounds to connect with one another.

Indicators may include the number of events delivered, new partner organisations brought on board, or levels of retention (returning participants). We would also expect to see diversity in community members reached, i.e. having a broad representation of:

  • socioeconomic background
  • race or ethnicity
  • faith/belief or cultural identity
  • sexual orientation
  • gender
  • age
  • level of education
  • disability status
  • other shared identities and experiences.

Improved access to, and/or coordination of, GLA-supported and local authority-provided services for Londoners in your local area.

Indicators should include the number of referrals and number of Londoners who were able to access services, civic rights, and other facets of support through your work. They may also include outcomes-based measures, such as positive changes in circumstance for those Londoners you connect to support services.

Greater reach of the Loved and Wanted campaign through grantee engagement in public-facing communications.

This includes reach and impact through various means of communication, such as social media channels, newsletters, mailing lists, testimonials and participants surveys, etc.

Indicators may include the number of people who learn about the Loved and Wanted campaign through you, or the number you reach through campaign-affiliated messages on social media.

Improved sense of belonging among Londoners in your local area.

Indicators include self-reported sense of belonging and less direct measures, such as high levels of returning participants at your social connection events.
