This report reviews trends in unemployment and economic inactivity since 2010. Among the key findings:
- Unemployment and inactivity among Londoners fell significantly in the wake of the 2007-08 financial crisis, as the number of jobs in London rose and labour force participation increased.
- There were particularly large falls in out-of-work rates in inner London boroughs and among certain population groups – including women and people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.
- Despite improvements, out-of-work rates remained high for Londoners in disadvantaged groups in 2021, with signs that the coronavirus pandemic has worsened outcomes for some, such as people with no or low qualifications.
