
Get Moving
Get Moving is a new programme to help older adults be more active.
Get Moving offers a fresh approach to improve the health, independence and quality of life for all older Londoners. . Get Moving is an new fund for activity taking place before 31 July 2016. We are also supporting organisations to run activities like dance, yoga, Pilates, community gardening and martial arts
Get Moving aims to:
- offer new ways for older Londoners to take part in physical activity which is fun, creative and social
- support older Londoners to meet the Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines on weekly levels of physical activity for older adults (65+) or contribute to maintaining balance, co-ordination and muscle strength – all core attributes for independence and healthy ageing
- target individuals or groups who currently struggle to take part in regular physical or social activities
- encourage ongoing participation beyond Get Moving sessions
- fund a range of non-traditional sports activities, such as dance and yoga to everyday activities which involve moderate levels of physical activity such as gardening or walking.
- gather evidence about activities which successfully attract and engage older Londoners in physical activity which will improve their health and wellbeing
