Respect your surroundings
Description:
The plastic bottle represents our surroundings, as inside there is a model of London with iconic buildings like the Gherkin and Battersea Power Station. Further in, it is decorated with slums as a reminder of what overpopulation could lead to. The buildings are grey to show the minimal diversity. On the other hand, outside there is a diverse representation of nature with bugs and plants. The markmaking techniques were inspired by the works of David Hockney. Inside the bottle there is grey painted on the sides to represent smoke and the cracks symbolise global warming, which will destroy our beautiful, natural surroundings. By investing in plastic, we may see a decline of nature and this fourth plinth design will remind those who pass it to respect their surroundings.
