London Building Stock Model
The Mayor is committed to cutting fuel poverty and making London a zero carbon city. London’s buildings contribute to the majority of the capital’s greenhouse gases, so urgent action is required to increase the number of homes and workplaces that are retrofitted with energy efficiency measures. To help target where action is most needed, in 2020 the Mayor has developed the London Building Stock Model v1 with the help of the UCL Energy Institute. The model has data on every domestic and non-domestic building in the capital.
Whilst it has proved useful, in 2024 the Mayor has brought the modelling work in-house and updated the data for domestic buildings by creating the London Building Stock Model v2. The two London Building Stock Model tools will help the London boroughs and other organisations identify households in fuel poverty, enforce the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) and target households and businesses eligible for support through various energy efficiency programmes.
London Building Stock Model v2
The London Building Stock Model v2 provides a snapshot of London’s domestic housing stock as of October 2024. This includes information on EPC ratings, heating systems, insulation levels and building fabric.
London Building Stock Model v1
The London Building Stock Model v1 provides a snapshot of all London’s buildings (both domestic and non-domestic) with information on their energy performance certificates as of 2017.
