Londoners desperately need affordable homes and the Mayor has a target of 50 per cent affordable homes on land owned by the GLA Group.[2]
In a Review[3], published in March, Lord Kerslake spelled out a case for the GLA Group to take a more interventionist approach in directly delivering the housing Londoners need and a roadmap on how to achieve this.
The London Assembly Housing Committee will discuss how, now the review has been fully accepted by the Mayor, the Review’s recommendations will be implemented by the GLA Group.
But what does implementing the Review’s recommendations mean for Londoners?
Will they get more affordable homes to live in?
And if bodies within the GLA Group were to use Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPO), in order to buy up land to build on, what could this mean for existing communities?
The guests are:
- Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development
- Lyn Garner, Chief Executive, London Legacy Development Corporation and new Senior Professional Lead for Housing Delivery, GLA
- Philippa Bancroft, Senior Manager, Public Land, GLA
- Graeme Craig, Commercial Development Director, Transport for London
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 18 May 2022 from 2.00pm at The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
