Responding to announcements by the Government on reforms in the fire and rescue sector, Anne Clarke AM, Chair of the London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee, said:
“The London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee welcomes the Government’s announcement of reforms in the fire and rescue sector. The Committee will consider the Fire Reform White Paper in detail and what this announcement means for Londoners.
“It is essential that firefighters immediately know where vulnerable Londoners live in a building in a time of crisis, which is why we continue to back calls from the London Fire Commissioner for urgent Government action on evacuation plans.
“It is unacceptable that as we approach the five-year anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, there are still more than 1,000 residential buildings with fire safety failings in London.
“All Londoners should feel safe in their homes. The Committee will continue to stand up for Londoners by examining fire safety issues in London, through its regular scrutiny of the London Fire Brigade.”
