Out of the shadows – tackling hidden homelessness

Created on
26 June 2017

As part of its investigation into ‘hidden homelessness’, the London Assembly Housing Committee heard in March the moving experiences of young people having to sleep on friends’ sofas for want of a secure place to live.{1}

Tomorrow the Committee will discuss how to tackle and prevent ‘hidden homelessness’ – what can we do to address the phenomenon in its many forms in London? How successful has new Welsh legislation been in preventing homelessness? Will the new Homelessness Reduction Act make a difference in England? And are there any levers the Mayor has at his disposal?

The guests are:

  • Vincent Lawal, Housing Solutions Manager, London Borough of Southwark
  • Jenny Barnes, Head of Policy and Research, Centrepoint
  • Deborah Halling, Senior Policy Officer, Housing and Land, Greater London Authority
  • Jennie Bibbings, Campaigns Manager, Shelter Wales (via video link)

The meeting will take place on Tuesday 27 June from 3:30pm in Committee Room 3 (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 2AA).

  • Media and members of the public are invited to attend
