London is open – but are its toilets?

Public toilets are a vital service for Londoners and tourists, and access to them will become particularly important with extra visitors expected in the capital due to the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. Publicly accessible toilets are integral to making London accessible, inclusive and economically viable.

Public toilets are important for everybody, but they are even more important to older people, people with children, delivery and transport workers, disabled people, people with medical conditions, people who are homeless and tourists.

There is an overall decline in the provision of public toilets provided by local authorities across the UK and questions on how to improve access, information and signposting, while increasing supply, are overlooked and remain largely unanswered.

The London Assembly Health Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss public toilets in London. The guests are:

  • Karen Hoe, Changing Places Manager
  • Ruth Wakeman, Director of Services, Policy and Evidence, Crohn’s and Colitis UK
  • Raymond Martin, Managing Director, British Toilet Association
  • Mark Evers, Chief Customer Officer, Transport for London
  • Councillor Julia Neden-Watts, Chair of the Environment, Sustainability, Culture & Sport Committee, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
