How is £344m being used to improve learning for adult Londoners?

Adult Education Budget
Created on
06 September 2022

The Adult Education Budget improves the skills and qualifications of adults both in and out of work. It funds qualifications including basic English and Maths, while employers can use it to support staff with career opportunities and progression.

The Mayor took over responsibility for allocating Adult Education Budget funding at the start of the 2019/20 academic year. It is worth approximately £344 million for the 2022/23 academic year.

What changes has the Mayor made to how the Adult Education Budget is spent since it was delegated in 2019? Has this improved opportunities for adults in London?

As part of a focus on the Adult Education Budget, the London Assembly Economy Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss what has changed and its wider impact on training providers, users, and employers.

The guests are:

  • Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills
  • Michelle Cuomo-Boorer, Assistant Director for Skills and Employment, Greater London Authority
  • Janet Gardner, Principal and CEO, Waltham Forest College
  • James Watkins, Head of Policy and Public Impact, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • Dr Xia Lin, Head of Research, Toynbee Hall
  • Anwar Miah, Peer Researcher, Toynbee Hall and adult education learner

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 7 September from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
