Currently, just 30% of Londoners achieve two ten minute sessions of active travel like walking and cycling a day. Transport for London (TfL) has calculated that every day, Londoners make around 1.5 million short trips by car, taxi or bus that could be walked – TfL refers to these as ‘walkable trips’.
How can London streets be improved to encourage more Londoners into active travel like walking and cycling?
The Healthy Streets Approach is a key part of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy which aims to improve levels of active travel and people’s quality of life by improving London’s streets.
The Transport Committee will discuss the delivery of the Mayor’s Healthy Streets Approach and the progress it is making towards key targets. The meeting will also examine how TfL is working with London boroughs to deliver the scheme across the capital.
The guests are:
- Dr Will Norman, Walking and Cycling Commissioner
- Gareth Powell, Managing Director – Surface Transport, Transport for London (TfL)
- Lucy Saunders, Consultant in Public Health – Transport and Public Realm, GLA/TfL
- Fran Graham, Campaigns Coordinator, London Cycling Campaign
- Joe Irvin, Chief Executive, Living Streets
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 5 December at 10:00am in The Chamber (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
