From City Hall to the Crystal?

The Crystal
Created on
06 October 2020

On 24 June, the Mayor launched a consultation on his proposal to relocate City Hall to The Crystal in the Royal Docks, East London. The Mayor’s press release on that date stated that leaving City Hall would create £55m in savings over a period of five years.

The Greater London Authority’s (GLA) Chief Officer has since clarified that the savings figure of £55m quoted by the Mayoralty is reached by taking the £63m in charges for the current City Hall over a five year period and deducting the cost of moving to The Crystal which is estimated at £8m.

Tomorrow, the GLA Oversight Committee will discuss the Mayor’s plans to move the Greater London Authority out of City Hall. The guests are:

  • Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
  • Mary Harpley, Chief Officer, GLA
  • David Gallie, Executive Director of Resources, GLA
  • Simon Grinter, Head of Facilities Management, GLA

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 7 October 2020 from 11:30am. This meeting will take place in a hybrid format, with some Members participating virtually and some participating in person, in accordance with Government advice and requirements on social distancing.

Media and members of the public can watch the meeting live here.
