Are you supportive of Government proposals in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill 2021 that will: increase the maximum penalty for causing death by dangerous driving from 14 years’ imprisonment to life imprisonment; increase the maximum penalty for causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs from 14 years’ imprisonment to life imprisonment; and create a new offence of causing serious injury by careless driving with a maximum penalty of 2 years’ imprisonment?

In March 2021 the Parliamentary Advisory Committee on Transport Safety produced a report on “Using alcohol interlocks to reduce drink driving in the UK”. Would you support the introduction of their use in drink driving cases in London? Please give your reasons.

Scotland reduced the legal limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg per 100ml of blood in 2014. What discussions, if any, have you had with a) the Scottish Government about the effect of this change; and b) the UK Government about implementing such a change in London and the rest of the UK?

The previous Mayor responded to the March 2016 consultation on the Government’s draft cycling and walking investment strategy to call for: a specific civil offence for the infringement of an advanced stop line by motorised traffic when the signal is red; and a “commencement order” to decriminalise cycle lane infringement. Neither change appeared in the final strategy, so could you update me on what you have done since you became Mayor to progress both of these requests in your discussions with Government?
