Summary of request
We would like to bring to your attention that London City Airport has just released another consultation period until September for the next stage of their expansion plan. We think that local borough residents need to be made aware so they can have their say.
Below a quote from the HACAN east web page:
‘Residents are dismayed by the London City expansion revealed in its Master Plan published today. The airport wants to lift the current cap of 111,000 flights allowed each year to 137,000 by 2030 and to 151,000 by 2035. Last year there were just over 75,000 flights. The airport also wants to get rid of the ban on flights between 12.30pm Saturday and 12,30pm on Sunday. Additionally it is proposing that more flights are allowed to operate in the early morning and late evening.’
There is a link on the LCY internet site for comments back.
- Can you advise how the authority will be cascading down this information to the residents, who’s lives would be affected by environmental and equality impacts, to make them aware that they can raise objections before the September deadline.
- How will both the environmental and equality impacts, that the additional expansion will cause, be monitored for the health and well being of local residents.
- How does the mayor of London propose to combat the pollution created by a further increase of over 40,000 flights over the borough to align with legislation now edging towards a carbon neutral zones.
