Queries about policing

Find out about the Mayor's role for policing in London.

The Mayor is not able to intervene directly in complaints or comments about specific incidents involving the police. These need to be directed as below.

If you have a general enquiry or comment about policing in your local area or London-wide, you should contact the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).

If you wish to make a complaint about the conduct of a Metropolitan Police officer or member of staff you should submit a complaint on the Metropolitan Police Service website.

You can also contact them by post:

Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS)

Complaints Support Team

22nd Floor, Empress State Building

Lillie Road

London

SW6 1TR

The Metropolitan Police Service will make a formal recording decision and then contact you to advise how your complaint will be handled.

In accordance with legislation, neither the Mayor nor MOPAC staff are able to record or investigate complaints or comments about specific incidents involving Metropolitan Police officers, except for those relating to the conduct of the MPS Commissioner.

Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)

Alternatively, you can submit your complaint by using the online complaint form on the IOPC website.

The IOPC will automatically forward your complaint to the relevant police force to handle.

You can also contact the IOPC by post:
