Scrutinising the Night Czar appointment

Amy Lame
Created on
22 November 2016

On 4 November 2016, the Mayor of London appointed Amy Lamé as London’s first Night Czar. Following this announcement, concerns were raised about how Ms Lamé was recruited to the post.

Tomorrow, Members of the GLA Oversight Committee will examine the recruitment process to confirm the appointment was undertaken in line with the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) processes and procedures. Questions will include:

What was the intention in appointing a night czar?

How will they add value to the GLA and to London?

Were applicants told the role had changed?

The guests are:

  • Nick Bowes, Mayoral Director, Policy
  • Justine Simons, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries
  • Juliette Carter, Assistant Director of HR & OD
  • Jeff Jacobs, Head of Paid Service

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 23rd November from 10.00am in Committee Room 5, at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
