If you’re dealing with a problem at work, it can affect other areas of your life. You might be worried about your finances, health and wellbeing, and other factors in your day-to-day life.
This page links to sources of wider support that may be able to help you while you're dealing with employment issues. They are trusted places to get support with finances, health and wellbeing, finding new work, and urgent support for people in crisis.
Support with money, debt and the cost of living
You may be struggling with finances due to being on a low income or having left your job. These services can help with money worries, day-to-day costs, and access to benefits and wider support.
- Mayor’s Cost of Living Hub – Information on support with the cost of living, including a benefits calculator to check if you can claim extra benefits.
- Citizens Advice – Free, confidential, and independent advice on issues like debt, housing, benefits and employment.
- Debt Free Advice – Free, impartial and expert debt advice for any Londoner in financial difficulty.
- MoneyHelper – Government-backed online guidance on budgeting, debt, benefits and more.
- Help from your local council – Find your local council to access support with essentials and crisis schemes.
Support with health and wellbeing
If you're worried about your physical or mental health, it’s important to know where you can find support. There are free services that can offer information, support and someone to talk to.
You can get support from:
- Your GP – If you'd like to get physical or mental health support, your GP is a good first step. They can provide support and refer you to other services if needed.
- Mind – Offers information, advice and support with mental health.
- Thrive LDN – A London-wide public mental health partnership providing wellbeing advice, tools and support.
- Samaritans – Free, confidential support available 24/7. You can call their free helpline 116 123.
If you need urgent mental health help, call 999 or go to A&E. You can also contact Samaritans on 116 123 or text the Shout Crisis Line on 85258.
Support with employment and training opportunities
If you’re experiencing problems at work, you may also be thinking about changing jobs or building new skills.
There’s free support available in London to help you explore your options and take the next step.
Finding a new job or skills and training opportunities:
- Mayor’s Jobs and Skills Hub – Information on how to find jobs, learning courses, and improving your skills in London.
- Jobcentre Plus – Your local Jobcentre offers help with job searching, CV writing and access to benefits if you're out of work.
- National Careers Service – Get careers information, advice and guidance, and find courses near you.
- Local council services – Many councils offer employment and training support or have information on what’s available locally on their website.
If you need urgent support
If you're in a crisis situation and you need urgent support:
- Contact the police immediately if your safety is at risk. You can also contact the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline for free, confidential advice.
- For urgent mental health support, use NHS urgent mental health services, call 999 or go to A&E. You can also call the Samaritans or text the Shout Crisis Line.
- If you're homeless or at risk of losing your home, contact your local council’s housing department, or ring the housing charity Shelter on 0800 808 4444.

You can also contact the ACAS helpline to get free, confidential advice.
