Funding fire services for London
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is the busiest fire and rescue service in the country and is one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world, protecting people and property from fire within the 1,587 square kilometres of Greater London.
In the 2026-27 London Fire Commissioner (LFC) Budget, the Mayor proposes a total of £557 million funding to LFB, up £25 million from 2025-26 in cash terms.1
Whilst there is a £12 million funding gap for 2026-27, this is forecast to decrease to £10 million in 2027 28, with a balanced budget in 2028-29.2
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee will continue its scrutiny of the Mayor’s 2026-27 budget, speaking to the LFB about its proposed budget for the forthcoming year.
The guests are:
- Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience
- Jonathan Smith, London Fire Commissioner
- Mostaque Ahmed, Director of Corporate Services, LFB
The meeting will take place on Monday 1 December 2025 from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
