Overcoming London’s barriers to housing development

Planning and Regeneration Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 2pm

At a meeting of the London Assembly Planning and Regeneration Committee in July, housing developers and experts in the sector revealed the biggest barriers stopping new homes being built in London.

On Monday, the Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and the Fire Service and a Director from the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) will be asked how they will address the issues raised by the Committee’s investigation to help deliver the homes that London needs.

Tuesday 10 September

Preventing another Grenfell tragedy

Fire Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

The Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report showed ‘systematic dishonesty’ contributed to the deaths of 72 people on 14 June 2017.

The London Assembly Fire Committee will ask the Deputy Mayors responsible for housing and the fire service, along with senior representatives from the London Fire Brigade (LFB), how they will respond to the Inquiry’s findings and recommendations.

Wednesday 11 September

Met Police Q&A - public order policing

Police and Crime Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

The annual Notting Hill Carnival took place on the bank holiday weekend of 24 August 2024. In total, there were 334 arrests during the event. Of these arrests, 49 were for possession of an offensive weapon, 37 for assault on an emergency worker, and eight for sexual offences. In total, there were eight stabbings and two fatalities at the Carnival.

In the second of the Committee’s regular monthly Q&A sessions, Members will question the Deputy Mayor and Met Police on:

  • Public order policing
  • London Policing Board
  • HMICFRS PEEL Report
