Assembly to question Met about front counter plans
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) reportedly plans to reduce the number of police station front counters across London from 37 to 19 and cut the number open 24 hours a day 7 days a week to 8.[1]
Having at least one 24/7 front counter in each of London's 32 boroughs was part of the MPS’ A New Met for London strategy[2], which is intended to bring about “more trust, less crime and high standards”.
Tomorrow, the London Assembly will hold an extraordinary additional meeting to urgently discuss the proposals with the Assistant Commissioner for Frontline Policing and the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. The guests are:
- Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
- Matt Twist KPM, Assistant Commissioner – Frontline Policing, MPS
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 6 August 2025 from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
