Your request:
1. During the month of April 2022, how many council employees were working from home,
and what percentage of the office based workforce does this represent?
2. Between 1st and 30th April 2022, how many desk bookings were made across the
council's office buildings and, on average, how many desk bookings were there a day
during this month?
3. How many desks were available for use in the month April 2022 across the council's
office buildings?
4. What was the maximum number of office staff who could theoretically work in the office
on any given day in April 2022?
5. What was the total number of office staff who worked in your council's offices each day
prior to the pandemic?
Our response:
The GLA is London's strategic government and does not operate in the same way as local councils in London, the Borough Councils, including the City of London and Westminster City Council.
1. The GLA has adopted hybrid working. We have not been recording staff attendance in the office.
2. We do not hold information in scope of your request. We do not have a desk booking system; staff cannot pre-book a desk.
3. Total desks available were 586.
4. Up to 586 at work spaces, but staff could also be in the building for shorter periods, e.g. for meetings, and this does not capture staff such as some security or cleaning staff that are not desk–based.
5. The GLA regularly reports on the number of employees in the authority and you can find this data in the published Workforce Reports.
The GLA’s Smart Working policy has been in operation since November 2021, so before the pandemic most staff already worked from home some of the time.
The GLA does not hold data that can answer your question about the total number of staff who worked in our offices each day prior to the pandemic.
