Our response
As London’s strategic government, the GLA does not operate in the same way as local Borough Councils. You will need to contact the councils individually who would be able to provide you with more details on electric vehicle (EV) fleet infrastructure in their authorities.
However, responses to your questions are set out below.
1. In December 2021 the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) published an updated Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy which sets out the expected number of charge points which London will need by 2025 and 2030 to help to support the uptake of EVs in London.
This provides an overarching strategy for London, setting out the ways in which the GLA, TfL and boroughs can support the implementation of EV charge points and the key stakeholders who will need to be engaged with. The strategy emphasises the importance of supporting fleets, in particular high mileage essential road users such as emergency fleets, taxis and private hire vehicles, logistics and businesses.
This strategy can be found on the TfL website.
The GLA is committed to supporting these fleets in the roll out of EVs, as set out in
the Mayor’s EV Infrastructure Delivery. This includes understanding how to support them
with the installation of charge points as well as how access to public charge point
infrastructure would support their operations. The Mayor’s EV Infrastructure Strategy
predominantly focusses on how London’s EV charge point infrastructure can ensure that
high mileage essential road users, such as fleets, can be supported in their shift to zero
emission vehicles.
3. The GLA regularly meets with charge point operators, the private sector, public sectors
including GLA Group and beyond. GLA and London Councils collaborate to understand how best boroughs and the GLA can work closely together to deliver charge points across
London. Stakeholder engagement takes place regularly, including GLA Group fleets meeting monthly, and GLA, TfL and London Councils engaging on a weekly basis.
4. Please see the response to Question 3 above.
5. The GLA has a dedicated member of staff working on public EV infrastructure roll out, as
well as a team working on the delivery of charge points at TfL.
Please contact Philippa Borrowman [email protected] who is currently responsible for supporting policy relating to public EV charge point infrastructure at the GLA.
The GLA works closely with TfL for the delivery of EV charge points across London.
You may wish to send a further request to TfL at [email protected].
