What will I be doing?
- Supporting the shop manager with the day-to-day running of the shop according to business demands (sometimes in the absence of the manager).
- Selecting, preparing and pricing donated clothes, books, homewares etc in line with shop guidelines.
- Taking specific responsibility for tasks such as opening the shop, closing the shop and supervising other volunteers.
- Providing excellent customer service whilst operating the till. Completing end-of-day banking.
- Creating attractive displays.
- Promoting our shops to the local community.

What impact will this have?
- Our shops would not be able to raise crucial funds for Oxfam’s emergency and development work all over the world without our dedicated volunteers, who provide their time and bring a multitude of skills.
- Volunteering in your local Oxfam shop helps build community spirit and engage other local people to work together towards the common goal of alleviating poverty.

Commitment
- We are looking for someone able to make a regular longer-term commitment of at least 4 hours per week.
- Ideally you will be available for one or two full days per week.
What else do I need to know?
- Oxfam does not accept applications from anyone on the Sex Offenders list. We may enquire about unspent convictions relevant to the role and you may be required to submit to DBS checks (at no expense to you). You can find out more information about safeguarding policies on our website.
- COVID-19 considerations:. Training provided in line with current government guidelines. Masks, gloves and hand sanitiser are provided. Protective screen at the till counter. Distancing measures & cleaning regimes in place. This will evolve in line with changes to government guidance & regulations.
Expenses
- Lunch and local travel expenses reimbursed in line with Oxfam’s policy.

Training
- We will provide you with ongoing support and training throughout your volunteering journey. This includes a full induction and specific training on Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Gift Aid.
- Role specific training depending on your interests and the needs of the shop.
