What will I be doing?

  • The Air Cadets is run by volunteers and you will form part of that team, led by uniformed volunteers.
  • A successful Squadron requires adult volunteers with a variety if skills, but everyone can apply their skills and experience where it best fits.
  • You could be teaching cadets about aviation or leading specialist training such as Adventure Training, Shooting and First Aid.
  • Driving cadets to activities, managing cadet records, recruitment, NVQ administration.
  • Planning ceremonial parades and fundraising.
  • Coaching sports and much more.

  • Promote and encourage a practical interest in the Royal Air Force and Aviation.
  • Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.

Commitment

  • We are looking for people who can commit for the long term, but Civilian Instructors can give as much or little time as they want.
  • Squadrons meet on two evenings every week and take part in various weekend activities throughout the year.

What else do I need to know?

  • The application process can be a bit lengthy while we wait for your DBS Check to be completed, but we will endeavour to keep in touch while you wait. Please be aware you must be a British Citizen or have leave to remain (or settle) in the United Kingdom to apply.
  • You will be a civilian instructor within a uniformed youth organisation and so must be willing to work within the ethos and values of the Royal Air Force and respect the discipline and regulations this entails.
  • As with all areas of life COVID has affected the way the Air Cadets operate. The safety and welfare of our cadets and adult volunteers is our priority and measures are in place and regularly reviewed to ensure we remain COVID Secure in accordance with Government guidelines. All the necessary PPE will be provided; we provide safety inductions for volunteers including clear social distancing guidelines; risk assessments are in place to protect people and activities.

Expenses

  • Mileage expenses are available within Air Cadet rules and regulations. Some residential activities will offer free food and accommodation.

  • A DBS check is required
