Warmer Homes

If you’re a London homeowner on benefits you may be eligible for a free boiler, insulation, double glazing or other improvements to help you heat your home more affordably.

Warmer Homes is Mayor Sadiq Khan’s £2.5m scheme to help Londoners stay warm and save on their energy bills.

It's first-come, first-served, so get your application in early to avoid disappointment.

About the scheme

Up to £4,000 worth of home improvements is available per household. You will need to submit an application providing information to show you are eligible and details about your home. If your application is successful, you will need to have a survey of your home to work out which improvements are most suitable.

There are several options available if you qualify for the scheme:

  • boiler replacement or repair
  • improved heating controls and heating systems
  • insulation for walls, roofs and floors
  • window upgrades 
  • draught-proofing

All surveys and installations will be managed by RetrofitWorks, a co-operative of installers that specialise in home energy improvements. They will provide you with a dedicated contact who will help explain what improvements are most suitable for your home and ensure that any work is carried out to a high standard.

Applying for the scheme

To apply you must:

  • live in Greater London
  • own and live in your own home
  • receive a qualifying benefit OR meet your local authority's eligibility criteria under the ECO Flexibility Eligibility Scheme

Why should I apply?

  • the improvements will make your home warmer
  • living in a properly heated home can improve your health, particularly if you have a long-term health condition that is made worse by the cold
  • lower energy bills and more efficient heating, which is better for the environment
  • you won't have to pay anything towards the work

Warmer Homes is being administered by the Energy Saving Trust on behalf of the Greater London Authority. Your personal data is being collected for the purpose of processing and evaluating your application as part of this scheme. The data you provide will be shared with the Energy Saving Trust who will be responsible for evaluating your application. Your personal data will be held by the Greater London Authority in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
