What's on offer and how to get involved
Initial sessions in the first month will be for young Londoners aged 5 to 15, with further sessions for adults, and specific groups being available in the coming months.
Sessions take place at participating GLL Leisure centres and you can book a slot on the Better website. Sessions cost £1. If you are a school, club or community organisation and interested in arranging a free session for your group, please contact: [email protected].
You need no previous experience of basketball with all levels catered for, and all equipment is provided. Sessions are delivered by trained and DBS checked London Coaches to ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for everyone. Just wear something comfortable, grab your trainers and fill up your water bottle!
About the programme
Basketball sits behind only football as the second-most popular team sport for young people in England, with over 500,000 Londoners playing regularly. NBA fandom continues to grow, with a 24 per cent increase in interest amongst UK adults compared to three years ago.
The Mayor wants London to be the greatest city in the world to grow up in, where all our young people have the opportunity to access safe, active and affordable opportunities. Recognising that access to outdoor sport can be limited in the colder winter months, this funding unlocks indoor court access at a time when young people need it most.
