Aviation Academy Norwich
The International Aviation Academy -Norwich (IAA-N) is a brand new development neighbouring Norwich International Airport , a purpose-built, specialist training academy set to create the next generation of aviation professionals. IAA-N is the result of a unique collaboration between a core group of key partners established within the aviation industry, education and training.
How does this show what we're looking for?
The Aviation Academy is delivering:
- one of the mainstream programmes within the Academy will see up to 80 new aviation engineers being trained per year. They will start training at the age of 16.
- across the courses offered, IAA-N expect a typical year to see 450 people being trained for local, national and international aviation jobs.
- the Academy will be the first in the country to create a ‘real world’ learning environment that includes a full sized operational Boeing 737 aircraft.
- the Academy will focus on offering a broad education and skills training in aviation and will raise the standards of learning using innovative teaching techniques.
This project demonstrates best practice because:
- the Aviation Skills Partnership has acknowledged an apparent skills shortage within the aviation industry, which IAA-N, as a first of its kind, will aim to address. One of the primary goals set out for the IAA-N is to help satisfy the demand for diverse skills required by the industry in the area, including Norwich Airport, an expanding aviation hub, ultimately spreading across the whole of the East Region.
- the Academy also projects a clear message both across the UK and internationally that IAA-N are intent on becoming a centre of excellence for aviation. As there is a well-documented global skills deficit across a range of aviation activities which the academy will help to address.
- £3 million of the project funding was secured by the New Anglia LEP, who was instrumental in getting the project off the ground, to help fund this £12.5 million unique project, ultimately enhancing the Norwich Airport Industrial Estate.
- the project partners comprise of both industry and education relevant organisations, namely: the Aviation Skills Partnership , KLM UK Engineering, Norwich International Airport, City College Norwich, University of East Anglia, New Anglia LEP, Norwich City Council, Norfolk County Council, Broadland District Council, Norse, NPS Group and WT Partnership.
