MHCLG press announcements
MHCLG has made several public announcements around the intended delivery of 1.5 million homes in this parliamentary term, including the:
- New Homes Accelerator (NHA) launched on 29 August 2024 setting out the aim to ‘speed up delivery of large-scale housing development’. A ‘call for evidence’ was launched at this time whose purpose was to invite developers, local authorities and landowners to identify delayed large-scale housing sites with significant planning issues.
- New Towns Taskforce established an independent expert advisory panel to support the government to deliver the next generation of new towns (September 2024).
- Letter to the Chair of Homes England (30 September 2024) setting out priorities for the agency to focus on accelerating development and increasing delivery of homes in 2024/2025. Through supporting the NHA and policy initiatives, such as the rejuvenated ATLAS programme.
- A ministerial statement (13 February 2025) on large-scale housing site delivery provided updates on the NHA and the new towns programme. It set out priority sites and funding.
- New Homes Accelerator press announcement (26 August 2025) on clearing the path for almost 100,000 homes in the first year of operation.
- The New Towns Taskforce announced its final report and 12 potential sites, including two in London (28 September 2025).
- The Mayor of London launched two new services to specifically focus on London sites (NHA LDN and ATLAS LDN). This launch was in tandem with Phase 2 of the New Homes Accelerator for all sites outside London (29 January 2026).
