London Fruit and Wool Exchange public hearing
In his role of making strategic planning decisions for London, the Mayor may occasionally take over an application, therefore becoming the local planning authority. He must then hold a public hearing before deciding whether or not to grant planning permission.
In this instance, the Mayor took over the application for the redevelopment of London Fruit and Wool Exchange.
Background to the public hearing
On 8 June 2012, the Mayor received a notice from Tower Hamlets Council that it was minded to refuse planning permission for the redevelopment proposals at London Fruit and Wool Exchange.
On 20 June 2012 the Mayor notified the council that he would act as the local planning authority for the purposes of determining the planning application (under article 7 of the Mayor of London Order and the powers conferred by Section 2A of the 1990 Act).
The Local Planning Authority reference assigned to the application is PA/11/02220. The GLA reference is PDU/1018a.
Representation hearing
A representation hearing was held on 10 October 2012, where the Mayor resolved to grant planning permission, subject to the prior completion of a section 106 legal agreement.
