Summary of request
Dear MOPAC,
I note from the minutes published here: https://www.london.gov.uk/programmes-strategies/mayors-office-policing-and-crime/governance-and-decision-making/london-criminal-justice-board/london-criminal-justice-board-26-may-2021-minutes
That:
“The Board considered that data surrounding trial effectiveness seemed to suggest that many Crown Court trials are vacated (86 went ahead during the last week and 87 were vacated)
I would like to be able to access the source of this data in order to be able to do my own analysis.
Please can you advise if this data is accessible?
Alternatively, can you please provide a breakdown of the trial effectiveness statistics for Crown Courts in London for this calendar year on a week by week or month by month basis.
MOPAC response:
I confirm that your request has been handled under the FOI Act 2000 and that MOPAC does not hold the requested information.
The Ministry of Justice publish National Statistics on Criminal Courts trial effectiveness as part of the quarterly releases of Criminal Court Statistics. The ‘Trial effectiveness’ data tool, available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/criminal-court-statistics-quarterly-april-to-june-2022 provides open data related to effective, ineffective, cracked, and vacated trials in Crown and Magistrates Courts by local Justice board area (including reasons for each type and the offence types).
