Community Resilience for Faith Communities

What will the course include?

Each course will consist of four two-hour workshops in the early evening. Refreshments and food will be provided.

The course will include a range of key issues including: 

  • critical emergency first aid: use of defibrillators, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and psychological first aid
  • equalities: understanding and responding to disproportionate impact of emergencies, awareness of equality legislation and guidance
  • hate crime: responding and reporting in community buildings, on the streets, on public transport, online and on social media
  • learning from experience: listening to community responders from previous emergencies
  • local checklists: connections to local authorities, emergency services, voluntary response organisations, media and more
  • lone working: how to make sure that people working late or by themselves are safe
  • mental health and wellbeing: supporting long term (chronic) as well as emergency (acute), advice and guidance on emotional support
  • new anti-terrorism requirements: support on Standard Terrorism Evaluations, Martyn’s Law requirements, and support on security 
  • recovery: understanding long-term support for communities, victims, and responders 
  • rest centres: supporting displaced households and affected individuals in an emergency or crisis
  • risk assessing: understanding the risks London faces including extreme weather, terror attacks, pandemics and more
  • safeguarding: making sure there is safe working within your premises and when volunteering at emergencies
  • volunteer mobilisation: what skills and knowledge volunteers may need, what support volunteers may need.
