Community Resilience for Faith Communities
Resilience Training Course 2025-2026
London Resilience is working in partnership with the London Boroughs Faiths Network to deliver a community resilience training course designed for faith communities.
On this course you will have access to the latest information, up-to-date advice and guidance on keeping places of worship and local communities safe, secure, and prepared for emergencies.
The course is free of charge and will include sessions led by experts from the emergency services, local authorities, and voluntary sector organisations.

Who is this course for?
This course is focused on faith communities across Greater London.
It is aimed at staff, trustees, lay leaders and volunteers responsible for community safety and wellbeing, and volunteer coordinators.
It is also open to anyone who has a key role in their faith community or at their place of worship.
When and where is the course being held?
The next course is taking place in April and May 2025 in Gunnersbury Park House. This course is primarily for faith groups in Ealing and Hounslow.
Further training will be taking place later in 2025.

What will the course include?
Each course will consist of four two-hour workshops in the early evening. Refreshments and food will be provided.
The course will include a range of key issues including:
- critical emergency first aid: use of defibrillators, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and psychological first aid
- equalities: understanding and responding to disproportionate impact of emergencies, awareness of equality legislation and guidance
- hate crime: responding and reporting in community buildings, on the streets, on public transport, online and on social media
- learning from experience: listening to community responders from previous emergencies
- local checklists: connections to local authorities, emergency services, voluntary response organisations, media and more
- lone working: how to make sure that people working late or by themselves are safe
- mental health and wellbeing: supporting long term (chronic) as well as emergency (acute), advice and guidance on emotional support
- new anti-terrorism requirements: support on Standard Terrorism Evaluations, Martyn’s Law requirements, and support on security
- recovery: understanding long-term support for communities, victims, and responders
- rest centres: supporting displaced households and affected individuals in an emergency or crisis
- risk assessing: understanding the risks London faces including extreme weather, terror attacks, pandemics and more
- safeguarding: making sure there is safe working within your premises and when volunteering at emergencies
- volunteer mobilisation: what skills and knowledge volunteers may need, what support volunteers may need.
