Transport for London
Transport for London (TfL) has been working to reduce the CO2 emissions of its transport network and head office buildings for several years. Faced with challenging energy reduction targets TfL has looked to retrofitting its buildings to make such reductions.

How has Retrofit Accelerator-Workplaces supported TFL?
The Retrofit Accelerator – Workplaces supported TfL in a pilot scheme in 2017, retrofitting 22 buildings with energy conservation measures.
The projects focused on the heating of TfL’s buildings. First, the RA-W team assisted in optimising TfL’s Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engines, also working on optimising the buildings’ heat recovery systems. Solar thermal technology was also installed, while upgrades were made to boilers, chillers, pumps and fans.
Beyond heating, the Retrofit Accelerator supported TfL in voltage optimisation, regulating the incoming power supply from the National Grid – reducing the amount of electricity used.
Impact
In taking advantage of Retrofit Accelerator-Workplaces’ guaranteed energy and CO2e reductions, TFL has cut its energy bill by £500k per annum and made significant carbon savings of approximately 800 tonnes of CO2e.

Retrofit Accelerator-Workplaces has given us considerable savings across our building portfolio which would have been unachievable otherwise.
The substantial cost savings and CO2 reductions achieved through our Retrofit Accelerator project with E.ON and other specialists at Palestra show the power of partnership working.
