What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
43% of readers achieved expected. Researched and found phonics programme, took all staff to visit a successful school. Stopped Literacy hour, researched internationally what were successful schools doing.
What actions did you take?
- Maryland staff teach other schools on how to use the programme successfully and improve their reading standards.
- Our pupils continually outperform national and local schools in phonics screening.
- We lead the way internationally
What were the outcomes?
As researchers and innovators, we were showcased in the 2018 Parliamentary Review, highlighting best practice in education.
