Hazelwood Junior School
Quality first teaching and learning- an agile approach
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Low attaining pupils from a variety of backgrounds and a range of needs. Our challenge was to ensure that all children reached or exceeded expectations through making accelerated progress.
What actions did you take?
- Early identification of individuals needing support
- Robust tracking of progress against stretching targets
- Distributed leadership and responsibility for children's progress, creating a multi layered approach
- Good and outstanding teaching and learning in every classroom
- Targeted in school interventions
- Additional learning opportunities - before school, after school and Easter holidays
- Creating and maintaining an environment where learning is fun, but where outstanding behaviour for learning is expected
- Lots of hard work and dedication from a brilliant team of people
What were the outcomes?
Progress in reading, writing and maths was outstanding and placed us in the top 10% of schools nationally.
