What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Hard to reach families resistant to help, children making insufficient progress and failing to reach their potential
What actions did you take?
- Concerted support from the Inclusion Team with a focus on reaching out and establishing dialogue with vulnerable families.
- Parenting programmes and personalised support with an open door policy for 1:1 discussions and targeted advice.
- Parent information evenings on curriculum development and strategies used in school to support pupil wellbeing and promote ambitious expectations.
- Engaging homework tasks and a celebration of achievements via Facebook.
- Whole school initiatives and staff training to focus on effective approaches with key skills.
- Whole school approach to developing a growth mind-set and promoting academic self-esteem.
- Before school programmes targeted for pupils making slower progress.
- Disadvantaged children accessing breakfast club in the morning to receive help with homework and online practice of basic skills.
What were the outcomes?
Attainment and progress at least in line or significantly better than similar pupils for past three years in all subjects.
