What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Through data analysis:
- Reading and Writing
- No Nursery
- Low baseline at the start of school
- Instability
- 68% EAL pupils
- More SEND
What actions did you take?
- Quality First Teaching.
- Effective CPD and Action Research to accelerate progress and close gaps e.g LSEF Principles into Practice (P2P) and MITA for Teaching Assistants, Mindsets/Positive -Learning Dispositions. Revision of basic skills and introduction of Reading and writing; Maths Mastery - Maths No Problem - Introduction of Oracy, Philosophy for Children and Debate.
- Appointed a Black Achievement Champion to work with all schools in Brent to raise the aspirations of Black Caribbean Boys.
- Early identification of needs and support needed.
- Specialist behaviour support/play therapist.
- Improved pupil progress review meetings with focused attention on underachievement.
- School organised key stakeholders to meet termly to identify barriers to pupils’ learning and achievement.
What were the outcomes?
- Top 3% for progress in the country, in 2016
- Top 10% of schools nationally for outcomes/progress 2017, 2018
