Healthy Early Years London: Year one evaluation report
The year one evaluation report finalised in December 2019 shows the positive impact the award is having across London, and the importance of working in partnership with boroughs and settings.
The evaluation was undertaken by Cavill Associates including: Dr Nick Cavill, Mike Parker, Professor Harry Rutter and Jo Foster. They looked at a wide range of evidence to assess the contribution the programme is making to improving health, wellbeing and child development and to reducing health inequalities for under-fives.
The report also reflects on some of the challenges in reaching these objectives, concluding with recommendations for the GLA, boroughs and early years settings.

Healthy Schools London evaluation report
Published in November 2016, the aim of the Healthy Schools London evaluation was to assess the contribution of the Healthy Schools London (HSL) programme in improving health, well-being, and educational achievement among school children in London. The evaluation was conducted between 2014 and 2016 and included focus groups, interviews and a school survey.
The findings were extremely positive and included the following:
- HSL provides a valued mechanism to encourage health promoting improvements at school level.
- The GLA core team, the borough leads, school staff, and others should be commended for the important and impressive roles they have played in establishing, leading and maintaining the programme.
- The impressive uptake of schools reaching Bronze award status (53% of schools registered) within 3 years of the start of the programme is remarkable.
