Accessibility statement for Healthy Early Years London and Healthy Schools London

This site has been built to be as accessible as possible and tested against WCAG 2.1 AA. There are some areas which are not yet fully accessible:

• The date calendar selector for the Gold award application is not fully keyboard accessible, as the calendar icon opens the date picker on focus - whereas it should only do this when the user presses enter. This unexpected context change impacts user experience for people relying on keyboard navigation, requiring extra keystrokes. The drop down list however, offers an alternative to select dates.
• Use of a third party widget (AddThis) means there is a redundant piece of code on all pages, that is empty.​​​​​​ Ideally we would remove this, but as it is third party content we have not been able to do that.
• On the page where schools can apply for a Gold Award there are some headings that ideally should be H2, which could pose a problem for some screen readers and other assistive technologies in interpreting the content.
• On various page, content is not presented without loss of information or functionality, and without requiring scrolling in two dimensions when the browser screen is resized to 400% with a CSS width of 1280 pixels.

The Healthy Schools service is currently being rebuilt and is due to relaunch in September 2025. This statement will be updated then.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

As this widget is third-party content which is not under our control (neither funded, nor developed by us), it falls under the exemptions of the accessibility regulations - Application, 4. (2)(e).

This website has been audited to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA. A sample of pages was tested which reflected all the key user journeys for the Healthy Early Years London and Healthy Schools London target users.

This website was last retested on 5 September 2025. The test was carried out by Test Partners Ltd.

We followed GOV.UK guidance on deciding how to check the Healthy Early Years and Healthy Schools website as follows:

• We manually assessed all the “unique” pages such as the "Sign-in" page and "Register" to determine the type of content on those pages.
• We identified a minimum representative subset of pages that contain examples of the most common layouts, components and features, including:
  • The header and footer.
  • Important “unique pages”.
  • Pages with text content.
  • Interactive elements such as forms and content filtering.
• We conducted a manual WCAG audit on the representative subset of pages.
• We conducted two rounds of retesting, such that most WCAG non-conformances have been fixed.
