Glenthorne High School - Boosting The Numeracy Skills of Year 6
Matching the most able primary school pupils with secondary teachers to raise attainment.
Glenthorne High School Teaching Alliance
The project set out to increase the numbers of pupils achieving Level 6 in SATs, improve transition to secondary school and boost primary teacher’s subject knowledge. It developed the knowledge and teaching expertise of primary school teachers to deliver more complex mathematics (usually taught in secondary schools).
Local secondary teachers delivered Level 6 sessions to more able pupils in primary schools, with their primary teacher counterparts observing. The sessions were supported by outreach work with the primary schools to moderate the quality of follow up work.
At project end nearly three quarters of pupils taking part achieved Level 6 in their SATs.
