Elklan Training
Elklan Training tested the impact of their "Communication Friendly Schools" approach on pupils, teachers and TAs.
Increasing attainment in English and Literacy in Key Stages 1 - 4
The project aimed to increase attainment in English and literacy by piloting a model which trains teachers to support spoken communication and understanding, providing four days of CPD to participating teachers and lower levels of training at a whole-school level.. The project was delivered to 31 teachers in 5 schools. Findings from both direct observation measures and online questionnaires were that knowledge and communication skills, and the use of appropriate teaching methods, had increased between pre- and post- training by between 22 and 33%. The two primary schools and the special school attained the necessary standards for 'Communication Friendly School' accreditation; the two secondary schools are still in the process of achieving accreditation.
