Who we are
Nisa-Nashim is a Muslim Jewish women’s network that connects Jewish and Muslim communities and works towards positive social change. We have women all around the UK, but primarily in London where we are based.
Our project focussed on the transformative personal relationships the charity has built over several years and how we are determined to maintain them during this time of unparalleled antisemitism and Islamophobia relating to the conflict in Israel/Palestine which ignited in October 2023. Our activities have taken place through the autumn and winter of 2023 to 2024.
Keeping our bonds strong to make a strong community
Despite feeling desperately sad, anxious and conflicted as the most recent conflict in Israel and Gaza flared up, Nisa-Nashim refused to accept that we had to fall into despair, distrust or hate. Instead, we relied on our founding principles and chose action across a range of different activities to keep our bonds strong, and make a ‘strong community’:
- we helped others in our communities through social action projects – giving back to local communities across London, including through the annual Mitzvah Day initiative
- we turned to the friendships that our network had built over many years
- in more reflective moments, our faith and prayer gave us comfort – including innovative online and in-person prayer vigils where we could reflect together
- we elevated the voices of women in places of power, and provided female leadership when it was most needed – at events hosted by The King, political leaders and others
- and despite constant headlines that told us otherwise, we used media platforms to show that Jewish and Muslim communities could continue to live and thrive side by side – on Channel 5, BBC News, Talk TV and more.

The message we want to send
Whilst times remain incredibly challenging and emotionally intense for all of us at Nisa-Nashim, we know that we are stronger as a result of the commitment we have made to learning from each other and growing together.
The past six months would have been unbearably harder had it not been for our Muslim and Jewish sisters, and though we might not be able to single-handedly change the situation on the ground in Israel and Palestine, we hope that our model can inspire others in London and beyond to try and new way of engaging with neighbouring communities and those of differing faiths.
For us, this is what Civic Strength in action looks like.
The changes we would like to see
We’d like to see policy which makes life better for all women and their families. In particular we’d welcome a package of policies to promote further integration and community building initiatives, inspired by our model of shared learning. We’d like to see better education (formal and informal) on difference – with people of all ages being encouraged to learn about the similarities and differences that we have between communities and faith groups.
Our biggest ambition is to help others realise the potential of female leadership. This is what Nisa-Nashim is built upon! Women have so much to bring to the table at all levels of community and society, but too often still we are overlooked when decisions about our lives and families are taken.
Whether it’s within our faith organisations, local councils, national organisations, charities or the highest levels of Government, women bring wisdom, dialogue and empathy (and all other qualities in between!).
