Who we are
Food is a fantastic way to bring people together, even if there are barriers in communication, food can be shared and enjoyed by people from different cultures. We are not just growing vegetables, we are also growing a strong and supportive community.
In Hong Kong very few people have gardens and can lack experience in how to grow vegetables. We provide the Hong Konger and local community with skills workshops, field trips, and talks about how to grow food in the UK.
We have found that Asian vegetables grow well in the UK in the right conditions and we are able to share Hong Kong-style vegetables and seedlings with others to build a community around each garden.
Through our activities, we not only celebrate Hong Kong's food heritage but also facilitate cultural exchange between residents of different cultural backgrounds, therefore integrating Hongkongers into British society.

Bringing people together through food
We grow all kinds of vegetables, some familiar to the Hong Kong Community and some new. We share the fresh produce with the local community after harvesting, providing Hong Kongers with a taste of home and new experiences for the locals.
We also take part in Farm to Table events, where community members turn vegetables into holistic tasty dishes. The sharing of food, the shared cooking experience and the culture linked to food brings people from different ethnic groups together under one roof in harmony.

Elizabeth House’s strong and connected community.
Strong communities are visible communities
Urban farming provides an opportunity to be visible in your community, offering opportunities to start conversations and make new friends and connections.
British gardeners passing by share their knowledge of slugs and snails which are new to the Hong Kong community! Through the farming project new friendships have been formed and the community strengthened around each garden.

Resettling made easier through gardening
Resettling can be extremely lonely and gardening projects, such as ours, provide an opportunity for Hong Kongers new to London to find a network and support.
Our farm has been a lifeline for Hong Kongers to meet people who speak their language and help one another access support in the UK.
The organisation welcomes anyone with an interest in gardening and is a way for Hong Kongers to expand their networks beyond those of the same origin.

The changes we would like to see
Hong Kongers who come to the UK have lots to offer. We would like to see more support for people who resettle here to access English lessons so they can integrate and contribute to the community more easily.
