
Iyamide Thomas and S.I Martin
Iyamide Thomas – is a Krio from Sierra Leone who read chemistry at University of London King’s College. She is passionate about showcasing her history, heritage and culture and its unique link to Britain and is active in The Krios Dot Com and Krio Descendants Union heritage groups. In 2017, she collaborated with the Royal African Society and British Library to facilitate Krio Creative Writing workshops showcased at the annual Africa Writes festival.
In 2019, Iyamide initiated and co-curated ‘The Krios of Sierra Leone’ a temporary exhibition at the Museum of London Docklands which ended in July 2021. Iyamide continues to educate others through events, symposiums, a Facebook group and now by organising this heritage trail.
Steve Martin – is an author and historian. He wrote Britain’s Slave Trade and a novel Incomparable World charting the progress of three black exiles living in 18th century London and has written works of fiction for children. He is also a consultant and curator working on archival projects and exhibitions for museums and galleries nationwide. Steve also conducts Black History and other walks which often tell London’s untold stories.
