The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) was established to allow the Mayor to carry out his day-to-day responsibilities for policing in London. MOPAC supports the delivery of the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan and also helps to set the strategic priorities, targets and budget for the Met.
The London Assembly Police & Crime Committee will tomorrow examine the effectiveness of MOPAC, including its scrutiny of the Metropolitan Police and its commissioning of services.
MOPAC’s ability to scrutinise the Met has been called into question by the Committee, for example in the case of electoral fraud and malpractice during the 2014 Mayoral election in Tower Hamlets.
The Committee wants to know:
- How effective are the relationships between the Mayor, the Met and MOPAC?
- How does MOPAC support the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime to hold the Met to account?
- Does MOPAC add value through its commissioning of services?
The guests are:
- Rebecca Lawrence, Chief Executive, MOPAC
- Julie Norgrove, Director of Audit, Risk and Assurance, MOPAC
- Siobhan Peters, Chief Financial Officer, MOPAC
- Paul Wylie, Director of Strategy, MOPAC
- Dan Hales, Acting Director of Integrated Offender Management, Programmes and Neighbourhoods, MOPAC
The meeting will take place on Thursday 11 January from 10:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or YouTube
