This meeting took place on 9 July 2014. Read the transcript here.
Over 300,000 trips a day are made in taxis and minicabs - and as the taxi debate in London heats up, the London Assembly Transport Committee begins a timely investigation into taxi and private hire services in the Capital.
Are taxi and private hire services meeting passenger needs?
How can safety be improved?
Can London learn any lessons from the experiences of New York and other world cities?
(The Committee will question former Commissioner and Chairman of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission).
Black taxis, mini cabs, private hire firms, Smartphone Apps and the performance of TfL’s Taxi and Private Hire Unit (TPH) will all come under scrutiny - plus passengers and drivers will get their say on what they would like to see from the industry in the future.[2]
The following guests will discuss London’s taxi and private hire services:
- Matthew Daus, US guest & President, International Association of Transportation Regulators;
- John Stewart, Chair of Policy Committee, London Travelwatch;
- Seema Chandwani, Policy and Services Manager, Suzy Lamplugh Trust;
- Faryal Velmi, Director, Transport for All; and
- John Dickie, Director of Strategy & Policy, London First.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 9 July from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 2AA). Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
