Assembly response to Public Accounts Committee criticism of Crossrail

Created on
27 February 2019

Today, the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee has criticised the Department for Transport for not learning lessons from previous programme deliveries in light of the increased costs and delays to the launch of Crossrail.

In response, Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee said:

“The work of the London Assembly Transport Committee looking into the management of the Crossrail project has shown that much more needs to be done to ensure that major infrastructure projects have the right governance in place.

“All parties – the Department for Transport, the Mayor as Chairman of Transport for London (TfL) and the Crossrail Board – must ensure going forward that this project is managed properly right up until delivery. Lessons must be learned for the future of Crossrail 2 and other major transport projects.

“It’s a shame that such a highly anticipated and exciting project has been stained with delays and overspending.

“Crossrail will be a huge benefit to passengers when open. It will undoubtedly be an invaluable part of London’s transport system.”
