Statement from the Chair of the Transport Committee on a new rail timetable for GTR
In response to the Govia Thameslink Railway’s decision to introduce a third new train timetable in two months on Thameslink and Great Northern to tackle severe disruption, Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, said:
“With Londoners facing massive disruption already across the train services due to speed restrictions blamed on the heatwave and timetable chaos, no doubt rail passengers will be exasperated to hear that yet another timetable will be implemented.
“The public have lost confidence in these new timetables because of the chaos they have caused. Passengers need certainty and reliability if they are to regain confidence in the train services they rely on.
“Whilst we accept incremental improvements to the timetable will have to happen to re-establish a decent service it will be months until passengers receive the level of service they were promised in May. A comprehensive compensation package is needed for GTR passengers.”
