Meeting London’s housing needs

Created on
30 June 2021

London has been in the midst of a housing crisis, since before the current Mayor’s first term began in 2016.

The COVID-19 pandemic has “exacerbated existing inequalities in London's housing market,”[2] increasing the urgency of addressing the housing crisis in the capital. The pressures on social housing and homelessness services could further increase in the near future as special measures introduced because of the pandemic come to an end.

The London Assembly will hold a question and answer session tomorrow about London’s housing needs:

  • What are the key housing challenges facing the capital in the coming years?
  • How many of the Mayor’s housing manifesto commitments will be achieved during the next three years?
  • Which of these manifesto commitments have been costed?
  • What are the timescales for delivery of these commitments?

The guests are:

  • Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development
  • Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor, Planning, Regeneration and Skills
  • Rickardo Hyatt, Executive Director of Housing and Land
  • David Lunts, Chief Executive, Old Oak & Park Royal Development Corporation
  • Daniel Bridge, Programme Director, Royal Docks Team

Following the discussion, London Assembly Members will debate these motions.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, 1 July 2021 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend – numbers may be limited.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
