London’s rail needs

Crossrail tunnel
Created on
10 July 2018

Demand on London’s transport is set to grow with the population forecast to increase from 8.7 million to 10.8 million by 2041.

Increased pressure on the network could mean even more crowded trains.

If no action is taken, 67 per cent of travel on National Rail services in the morning peak hours will be in crowded conditions.[2]

So how does London’s rail network need to change over the coming decades to accommodate such growth? How will funding for rail improvement projects be secured? How can the Mayor of London make the case for more rail services to be devolved to Transport for London (TfL)?

The London Assembly Transport Committee will tomorrow discuss London’s rail needs and what Network Rail and TfL are doing to deliver them. The guests are:

  • Paul Plummer, Chief Executive, Rail Delivery Group
  • Michèle Dix, Managing Director Crossrail 2, TfL
  • Geoff Hobbs, Director of Public Service Transport Planning, TfL
  • Rupert Walker, Strategy and Planning Director (South), Network Rail
  • Mark Farrow, Director for London Rail, Network Rail

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 11 July from 10:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or YouTube
